City seeks diverse voices for Brown Ranch and affordable housing stewardship team
The city of Steamboat Springs and the Yampa Valley Housing Authority are seeking members for the new Community Deliberation & Stewardship Team (DST) to address the Brown Ranch property and affordable housing crisis.
This temporary initiative comes in the wake of a recent setback, as voters rejected the city’s annexation of Brown Ranch in March 2024, halting plans for a major affordable housing project.
“We are seeking community members who have a wide range of points-of-view on the opportunity at the Brown Ranch property, and related perspectives on how much and where the city should grow,” said Principal Planner Brad Calvert in a statement on Monday. “We are also looking for ideas and problem solving as how to provide more affordable living options in a community facing an affordable housing crisis.”
The DST will comprise 25-35 community members with diverse perspectives and backgrounds, meeting monthly for approximately 3-4 hours, with additional preparation time required. The meetings will include expert facilitation and comprehensive informational resources, with the overall goal of fostering mutual understanding around the affordable housing issue and exploring areas of consensus for Brown Ranch’s future direction.
Interested individuals can apply online at: TinyURL.com/49ah69yh.
Community members can also nominate others who they believe could provide meaningful input and expertise to the DST. The deadline to submit the form is March 17.
