The city of Steamboat Springs and Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. have agreed on a 20-year deal to support transportation services provided by Steamboat Springs Transit.
Taking effect Nov. 1, the agreement guarantees a financial contribution from Ski Corp. to the city’s public transit system.
Under the agreement, Ski Corp. will contribute $2.75 million annually to help fund SST’s operational and capital costs. The contribution includes the resort’s voluntary remittance of sales tax-equivalent payments from its on-mountain restaurants and retail locations outside city limits.
“We value SSRC’s long-standing commitment to public transit and their willingness to formalize and expand that support in this way,” said City Manager Tom Leeson, in a news release. “This agreement provides long-term funding for a free transit system that serves as the backbone of our community year-round.”
The resort and the city will also collaborate on service evaluation to help improve and sustain a quality transportation service.
“The partnership between SSRC and the city of Steamboat Springs has always been about working together to create a better experience for our community and our guests,” said Dave Hunter, president and COO of SSRC. “Reliable, accessible transit is essential, and this agreement reflects our belief in supporting that vision now and into the future.”
The agreement runs through Oct. 31, 2045, and includes the potential for annual escalators based on inflation in the fourth year of the agreement.
