The U.S. Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment on changes to sage-grouse habitat management across eight Western states.

The proposed amendments would “continue to ensure responsible habitat stewardship while making more public land available for energy development and mining,” supporting President Trump’s executive order, Unleashing American Energy, according to a BLM news release.

Affected states include California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming.

Changes will incorporate key research, including new information about how sage-grouse respond to drought and disturbances, the news release adds.

Information about a public comment period can be found in a Wednesday notice in the Federal Register. To view the notice, visit TinyUrl.com/5cktmehy.

Additional information can be found at the BLM National Register, where comments can be submitted through the “Participate Now” option. To view the register, visit TinyUrl.com/4v8uz6bh.

Comments can also be mailed to the BLM Anchorage District Office, addressed to Stephanie Rice at 4700 BLM Rd., Anchorage, AK 99507.

The public comment period will close Oct. 3.
