The author of the book “Bicycling with Butterflies” is scheduled to visit the Colorado Mountain College campus in Steamboat Springs from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23 as part of the school’s Common Reader program.

Besides interacting with author Sara Dykman, attendees can expect a slide presentation and book signing. Complementary copies of “Bicycling with Butterflies” will be available at the event.

Dykman’s book documents her 10,201-mile bike trip following the migration of monarch butterflies.

The book received the 2021 National Outdoor Book Award and was praised by the late Jane Goodall, who passed away Oct. 1. The renowned primatologist and conservationist called Dykman’s work “an extraordinary story” and “a lament for our thoughtfulness destruction of nature and at the same time, a celebration of the beauty that remains.”
