If there’s a category Steamboat Ski & Bike Kare is glad it won, it’s boot fitting.

“It’s the pride and joy of our shop,” says General Manager Jake Ehrlich, adding the store is carrying on a tradition and expertise owner Harry Martin began 35 years ago while running a ski shop in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. “A lot of people don’t realize how important it is. It’s absolutely paramount to your skiing experience, whether you go out for two days a year or 150.”

He credits their success to both Martin as well as inhouse boot-fitters Bill Kipper and Mike Johnson, both of whom come highly recommended.

“And word of mouth has spread about the job we do regarding boot problems,” he adds. “If you go out and do it yourself without the proper knowledge, it’s almost impossible to do it right.”

Buy your boots at the store, he adds, and the fitting is all included, complete with a lifetime warranty. Or, bring your own boots in and they can help out on an a la carte basis, whether it’s custom footbeds, molding shells, thermoforming liners and more.
