Two local nonprofit organizations – Undiscovered Earth and Northwest Colorado Health – are partnering to launch a “50 Day Challenge” fundraiser to support youth mental health.
The challenge set for Sept. 1 to Oct. 21 encourages community members, families or business teams to walk up to 500 miles or bike up to 1,000 miles to rally support for youth mental health.
Participants will set their own physical goals while raising funds for two local initiatives, Prescription for the Arts at Undiscovered Earth and the Youth Resiliency Program at Northwest Colorado Health. The physical struggle of walking and biking is meant to mimic the mental health struggles many people in the community face, according to organizers.
“It’s about coming together as a community to shine a light on the struggles our youth face and to show them they are supported, valued and not alone,” said Peggy Axtell, care navigator for Prescription for the Arts.
The free sign-up for the challenge is online at 50-day-walk-bike-challenge.causevox.com. The 50 Day Challenge begins with a Kick-Off Celebration at 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Wildhorse Cinema & Arts at 655 Marketplace Plaza in Steamboat Springs.
Challenge proceeds will support programs that provide tools, creative outlets and safe spaces for young people through the two organizations. For questions, contact Peggy Axtell at peggy@undiscoveredearth.com or 970-531-9986.
