Steamboat Resort bike park opens for season and local riders head out

The Steamboat Ski Resort Bike Park opened last Friday, drawing droves of dedicated bikers to ride the trails and shake off the winter rust.
Trail projects that took place in the offseason included resurfacing Buckin’ Bronc — which remained closed to riders on opening day — and Rustlers. Lasso is still closed as well.
“Everyone that came out for opening day were stoked that the trails are finally open,” said Bike Park Manager Kat Stuart. “We have an incredible community of local riders who can really rip.”
Other trails in the base area may be impacted from construction on the Stockman Hotel, off Ski Time Square Drive.
The park will be open everyday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Riders can take either the Steamboat Gondola or Wild Blue Gondola to the upper levels of trails, and hop on beginner, intermediate and advanced trails. The resort also has a variety of private and group lessons. There are also specialized clinics for kids.

In the early days of the season, local residents tend to dominate the tracks.
“We don’t see the scores of bikers from the front range until later in the season,” said Stuart. “As such, we get to meet and learn the local riders and kids who come out.”

Mountain bikes can also be expensive, but the resort offers rentals at the Steamboat Sports Sheraton Bike Shop. Individuals can rent downhill, cross‑country, cruiser, and e‑bikes for use both in town and on‑mountain trails.
All hiking and multi-use trails are also open.

“It was really cool to see the local rippers come out and enjoy themselves,” said Stuart. “It’s a fantastic collection that offer trails for all ages and abilities.”
