Renee Fleischer stepped onto the stage at the Steamboat Springs High School auditorium Wednesday evening to run through her lines as part of the dress rehearsal for Elevation Dance Studio’s spring performance, “Rhinestones & Rodeo: A Wild West Spring Recital.”

“Sixteen years marks a coming-of-age, and these performances are especially meaningful,” said Fleischer, owner of the studio since 2010. “We decided to pick a theme that embodies a unique Western spirit reflected right here at home in Steamboat. We dance with that spirit in our hearts, honoring both where we come from and where we’re headed.”

This year the Steamboat Springs studio will host four performances, including an opener Thursday night. Additional performances are slated for 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a 1 p.m. matinee also set for Saturday.

The show has been put together by the studio’s 16 instructors who choreographed 37 numbers for the Thursday and Saturday evening shows, and 28 for the Friday night performance and Saturday matinee. Different styles of dance including ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip hop and jazz funk are featured in the shows.

This year’s show will include 187 dancers and feature six graduating seniors including Jasmine Brady, Natalie Clark, Jocelyn Gugel, Alivia Lage, Ailie Strong and Emma Wilson.

“As we close this season, I find myself navigating some personal milestones as well,” Fleischer said.  “With my youngest heading off to college this fall, I am stepping into a new chapter of my own. I started the studio when he was just 2 years old, and in many ways, I have grown the studio alongside raising my boys. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities this journey has provided — not only for my family, but for all of yours.”
