January 13, 1937 – June 27, 2026

Michael McCuistion, part-time resident since 1997 of Steamboat Springs, passed away on June 27, 2026. Michael was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. After graduating from the University of Nebraska, he went on to join the Air Force. He was a Fighter Pilot with the Air Force and a 6 year(1967-1973) Prisoner of War (POW) in Vietnam. Michael stayed in the Air Force and retired Lt. Colonel in 1981. After his military retirement, his love of flying had him flying corporate and private jets until his retirement in 2003.

Michael was a quiet man and known for his dry sense of humor. When he did speak, it was relevant and his wisdom was always respected. He was an avid golfer, loved scuba diving, ran the New York Marathon and in his later years enjoyed horseback riding.

He will be buried in Washington DC Arlington National Cemetery with a Full Military Honor Funeral.

Michael is survived by his wife, Mari, sister Martha Martin, his children; Danny and wife Susan, Michele Last and husband Don, Lisa Owens, Kate Croucher and grandchildren Ciara, Louie, Kennedy and Schaffer.
