Inside the new Body Chalet Pilates studio, clients will find 10 state-of-the-art reformer machines located in a bright studio, a choice of class options led by knowledgeable instructors and a supportive community.

“I am trying to build a community,” said owner Kristina Steinberg, who was born and raised in Steamboat Springs but left after high school to pursue her education back East. “When I moved to New York City, I found my community almost instantly through my Pilates studio.”

She wanted to create that same type of community in her hometown with her new venture, Body Chalet.

“I want this to be a place for newcomers to feel welcome, and I want people who are already established in this community that are maybe looking to meet new people or just be around other productive, healthy, and inspired people to join.”

The new studio is at 345 Anglers Drive, suite C, on the back side of Sundance Plaza, behind The Egg and between The Agency and Eyecare Specialties Steamboat. Steinberg said from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, Body Chalet will host an open house. The official grand opening is set for Saturday, Sept. 26.

“This is a very athletically based studio that offers contemporary Pilates where you get a really good workout,” Steinberg said. “I call it athletic reformer Pilates because it’s like you’re training for something. My whole focus is on Pilates being incredible cross-training for your other sport, whatever your other sport is.”

Steinberg will be joined by three other instructors teaching a lineup of classes that includes Athletic Reformer, a dynamic class emphasizing strength, stability, mobility and muscular endurance; Precision Tower, a functional, full-body strength program built around spring‑resisted presses, pulls and levered legwork; Skiers’ Edge Jump Board, a lower-body and core-focused program that sharpens on‑snow performance; and Après Ski Recovery, a guided reset to ease sore legs and stiff joints after a day — or week — full of athletic pursuits.

Body Chalet offers drop-in classes, as well as two-, four- and six-class packages. The studio also offers first-time clients an introductory four-class package. Clients can also choose one-year, three-month or monthly memberships at gold, silver and bronze levels.

Steinberg grew up in Steamboat Springs, attending Steamboat Mountain School (formerly the Lowell-Whiteman Primary School) and Steamboat Springs High School.

She grew up surrounded by ski racing. Her father Erik Steinberg is a former U.S. Ski Team coach, and her mother, Kathy Steinberg, is a certified instructor. When Kristina was not on the slopes competing with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, she danced with Elevation Dance Studio and was a regular at area Pilates classes.

She left Steamboat to attend Parsons School of Design, where she earned her business degree and got several certifications to teach Pilates.

Last New Year’s Eve, Steinberg made it her resolution to open her own Pilates studio in the town where she grew up.

The new studio features vintage ski photography hanging on the walls and a pair of wooden skis resting in the corner. The walls are covered in mirrors and skylights that allow the sun to warm the room.

Her plan is to host classes seven days a week and offer social events outside of class designed to help clients connect with one another by gathering for hikes on nearby trails in the warmer months, or carving turns on the ski slopes in the winter.

“I want to be friends with my clients, and I want my clients to be friends with each other,” Steinberg said. “I want there to be a lot of camaraderie and a community where clients push each other to get stronger and to progress in their sport — that’s all very important to me.”
