Steamboat Springs crews recently completed the installation of two new bridges on Hitchens/Snake Island, replacing deteriorating structures and providing safer, more reliable crossings for visitors exploring the area, states the city’s most recent newsletter.

The new bridges aim to enhance stability and accessibility along the trail, helping mitigate possible hazards related to aging infrastructure and ensuring guests and locals alike can “more confidently navigate this unique natural space.”

The bridge replacements also help maintain integral trail connectivity and support the long-term sustainability of Hitchens/Snake Island, the newsletter states. Well-maintained trails play a vital role in the community’s multimodal transportation network, providing residents and visitors with alternative ways to travel without relying on busy roadways alone.
