Western Resilience seeks volunteers for forest regeneration surveys
The Western Resilience Center is looking for volunteers to conduct weekly forest regeneration surveys of wildfire burn scars.
Volunteers should expect to spend eight hours a week hiking around a burned area to take measurements on seedling growth, viable seed sources, invasive weeds and understory vegetation.
The project aims to collect data and identify what parts of burned forests are less likely to regenerate naturally and help shape future forest planting projects and decisions.
Volunteer days will typically be from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursdays. Meeting spots will either be the U.S. Forest Service office or the Stockbridge Transit Center, depending on the survey area.
