Town of Yampa cancels 4th of July fireworks show
The town of Yampa has cancelled its 4th of July fireworks show this year due to high fire danger across the state, according to a statement released on Tuesday.
The cancellation comes shortly after Steamboat Lake State Park cancelled its fireworks celebration for similar reasons.
Town Clerk Sheila Symons said in the statement that despite the cancellation of fireworks, the town still has a full lineup of events, including the Antler’s Independence Festival on July 3, a car show, pancake breakfast, street dance and parade, along with kids’ games, horse polo and local vendors providing food and activities for all ages.
Town officials ask Yampa residents to avoid purchasing or using personal fireworks this year due to drought conditions, noting that even small fireworks can start a fire.
“Our goal is simple — we want everyone to enjoy the holiday safely and avoid any chance of putting the town at risk,” said Symons in the statement. “We can’t wait to celebrate with you and enjoy a wonderful holiday weekend filled with tradition, neighbors and good times.”
