Sunny Steamboat skies expected to give way to rain — and, yes, snow

Sunny skies and balmy conditions that have marked our workweek in Steamboat Springs should give way to colder temperatures and significant precipitation by Monday night — with snow possible in town — according to local meteorologist Mike Weissbluth’s latest twice-weekly forecast at SnowAlarm.com.

“Winds and clouds will increase by Saturday afternoon, and additional Pacific energy slingshotting around the storm will bring an increasing chance of late-day showers that may continue into the overnight,” Weissbluth wrote. “Cooler temperatures in the mid-60s will follow on Sunday, with uncertain shower chances …”

“A strong cold front” should be in place by Monday morning, Weissbluth continued, bringing “much colder temperatures” and “possible snowfall at all elevations.”

At the 10,531-foot-high Storm Peak Laboratory above Steamboat Resort, the National Weather Service on Thursday afternoon had rain and possible snow included in its forecast from Saturday night through Tuesday, prior to sunny skies returning mid-week.

The NWS in-town forecast included possible thunderstorms Saturday night through Sunday, with both rain and snow possible Sunday night, Monday and Tuesday morning.
