Letter to the editor: Meadows parking plan is ‘laughable’
Letter to editor
The idea that the mountain, after years of manufacturing congestion, wants to charge for parking at the Meadows to eliminate “congestion” is laughable.
Apparently they have spent at least a year evaluating the issue, and the fruit of their endeavors tackling the great mystery of congestion is a toll booth that opens beautifully for the wealthy, but slams down hard on the heads of the working class locals. Did they need to hire top dollar consultants to come up with that epiphany?
I just spent 18 minutes thinking about it and I have a concrete solution:
- Purchase at least 6 to 8 more shuttles
- Hire more drivers.
- At the Meadows, alter the shuttle path pattern so outgoing shuttles go south to north in the middle lane and incoming shuttles go north to south in the same middle lane. The looping through to drop and then looping back to pick up is infuriating and so inefficient.
- At the transportation center, acquire two more drop off lanes.
- Open Wild Blue, the Gondola, the Six Pack and Thunderhead earlier (access to all)
- Eliminate First Tracks (the other toll booth that favors the wealthy over the working class)
- Eliminate the Ikon Pass. You may see a theme in this plan. Yes it’s going to cost the mountain some dollars. I’m okay with that.
Take ANY of these steps and it will help eleviate the situation. Take ALL of these steps and it WILL eliminate congestion. I guarantee it.
