Routt County Search and Rescue issues summer statistics

Routt County Search and Rescue has published its total numbers for its May 1-Aug. 31 summer season.
Search and rescue responded to 23 incident calls, which is above average for the season.
“Fortunately, most of these were fairly straightforward,” reads a search and rescue Facebook announcement. “But we are grateful for the strong work from our partner agencies when we needed their support.”
Search and rescue saved four lives while assisting hikers, mountain bikers, anglers, equestrians, off-highway vehicles and ranchers.
Sixty-five percent of calls were located within the Steamboat Springs area, the most common response zone in Routt County.
Spring Creek Mountain Preserve was a hotspot with three calls. Emerald Mountain had two calls.
There were also five incidents in North Routt County and one in South Routt. There were two requests for out-of-county mutual aid from neighboring search and rescue teams.
In total, there were eight searches, seven injury rescues, six non-injury rescues, zero recovery missions and two mutual-aid calls.
