Letter to the editor: Vote no on 81
Oak Creek, CO
Amendment 81 would allow federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers to expand operations in Colorado in ways that are currently illegal under state law. A no vote on Amendment 81 blocks this unwarranted ICE overreach.
Amendment 81 is an unfunded mandate that would drain resources from state and local police whose primary responsibility is to serve the residents of Colorado, not assist the federal government in immigration and customs enforcement. State and local police are not trained to do federal immigration work and the amendment provides no additional resources to do so.
ICE fails to meet the high standards of training and professionalism demonstrated by our hard working state and local police. ICE’s brutality and illegality have no place in Colorado neighborhoods. Vote NO on amendment 81 to stop this unwarranted ICE overreach.
