The Bud Werner Memorial Library is hosting a community talk with book critic Ron Charles at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20 in Library Hall.

Charles and Literary Sojourn Festival Director Jennie Lay will take a deep dive into his expertise on the state of media, publishing book reviews and literary critique.

Charles has been a book critic for 30 years, including a two-decade run at the Washington Post. He served as the Post’s book section editor and a book reviewer until the newspaper shuttered its books section in February 2025.

He also hosted “The Book Report” for CBS Sunday Morning for six years, and he has interviewed many of the nation’s leading poets in a series sponsored by the Library of Congress.

His current work is available on Substack at RonCharles.substack.com.

The event is free, with no tickets or registration required.
