Routt County commissioners, in partnership with the city of Steamboat Springs and the Yampa Valley Housing Authority, are seeking applicants to fill open seats on YVHA’s board of directors, with applications due Nov. 1, states a recent news release.

The housing authority board is responsible for governing the organization’s business affairs and assets while helping guide its strategic directions. Board members serve in a volunteer capacity and must live or work within YVHA’s service area, which mirrors that of the Steamboat Springs Rural Fire Protection District.

Beyond attending board meetings, each member serves on a work team that provides strategic guidance and support in critical areas, including communications and community engagement, development, finance and capital planning, policy and advocacy, property and asset management, and real estate.

The board consists of 7-15 members, with six seats currently open, according to YVHA Communications Manager Laraine Martin.

While a typical term is three years, the city and county can assign terms of 1-3 years, or appoint people to fill vacant seats, with those appointees filling the remainder of the term, Martin explained.

Board President Kathi Meyer, who served YVHA for 22 years, announced in September that she would be stepping down from her role one year early due to health issues. Martin said Board Members Catherine Carson and Mark Halvorson, whose terms end in 2026, have opted against applying to renew their terms.

Residents with an interest in housing, community development, finance, policy, communications, real estate or organizational leadership are encouraged to apply.

To apply, visit TinyURL.com/3zd8wfma. Completed applications can be delivered to the commissioners’ office, 522 Lincoln Ave., Suite 30 in Steamboat Springs, or emailed to jparent@co.routt.co.us. Applications are due by Sunday, Nov. 1.
