With great sadness we share that Kathleen Caldwell, long-time resident of Steamboat Springs, passed peacefully after a brief illness. To know Kathleen was to love and have laughed with her. She was brave, beautiful, funny, strong, and savvy. Born to Lynn and Stephen Caldwell in Bitburg, Germany, she was the second of six children. She grew up in New Mexico, attended Sandia High School, and honed her artistic and athletic talents, joining the first wave of female skate and snowboarders. She moved to Denver to manage a BC Surf & Sport store. In the early nineties she seized an opportunity to open the BC store in Steamboat, and the town quickly became her home. Her pioneering spirit fueled her to fulfill her goal of building a life and welcoming home on the mountain. She attended cosmetology school and was a beloved hairstylist and friend to so many. Her greatest love and accomplishment was raising her amazing son, Seth Caldwell. She enjoyed hosting parties, beach vacations, playing golf, fishing, riding horses, and running a popular NFL pool. She’ll be remembered for her contagious laugh, free spirit, and dedication to brightening the lives of her friends and family. She is survived by son Seth, mother Lynn, siblings Karen Hancock, Jenny Fike, Matt Caldwell, Annie Caldwell, Meghan Pridham, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly. A small tribute to her life is planned in Albuquerque, NM on 11/30. A Steamboat tribute will be planned for Spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to the ASPCA.
