New paint recycling drop-off site opens in Steamboat Springs
Steamboat Springs residents and businesses now have an additional year-round option for recycling leftover paint through a new PaintCare drop-off site at Apex Waste Solutions, according to a statement released Monday.
The facility, located at 2701 Downhill Drive, accepts up to 5 gallons per visit of most household paints, stains, sealers and varnishes, regardless of where they were purchased. The site is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and joins more than 215 PaintCare locations across Colorado.
Program officials say expanding drop-off locations helps ensure leftover paint is reused or disposed of responsibly. Collected materials are processed for reuse, turned into recycled-content paint or repurposed for other uses, including fuel.
Certain items are not accepted, including spray paint, unlabeled containers and leaking or empty cans.
