Opinion | Marshall: My plan to address government overregulation, our affordability crisis, budget strain and more, if elected
Senate District 8 Republican candidate

Deeply rooted as a fourth-generation Coloradan, my family’s heritage spans more than 120 years across our state, primarily centered in our agricultural traditions of farming and ranching.
For three decades, I have owned and operated my ranch in Gilpin County. Beyond these roots, I am a proven builder of enterprises and employment opportunities, having successfully developed multiple commercial ventures from the ground up across both entrepreneurial paths and corporate leadership roles.
I’m a devoted family man, blessed to have shared 35 wonderful years of marriage with my wife. Together, we have raised two children and are now grateful to be grandparents to three amazing grandchildren. Family has always been at the heart of my life, and I’ve been fortunate to also serve my community as a leader and contributor, giving back to the people and community I care deeply about. In the end, I’m just one of you.
I am stepping up to serve as your next senator because I have watched our state and district spiral in the wrong direction, and frankly, enough is enough. Running for office offers me no personal gain — it is not a stepping stone for my career, a boost to my finances, or a path to personal advancement. My candidacy is fueled entirely by a genuine passion to fix our pressing problems for current and future generations.
Restoring our community requires taking control of our own future instead of bowing to endless compromises and top-down mandates from Denver politicians. For far too long, decisions made by the Denver establishment have harmed local families and strained hard-working citizens. I feel that pain right alongside you, and the time has come to put an end to these destructive policies. Together, we must halt Denver from manufacturing our housing challenges, inflating healthcare costs, squeezing our agricultural community, eroding district affordability and creating state budget shortfalls.
While state leadership points fingers at federal authorities, our ongoing hardship stems directly from two decades of single-party control in Denver shaping these decisions. I am stepping up to halt this self-inflicted damage once and for all.
If elected as your next senator, I will tackle our self-imposed affordability crisis head-on by driving job development and keeping high-paying industries thriving in our district. We are manufacturing our own housing affordability challenges through excessive red tape, heavy property tax loads and inflated utility expenses. The Marshall Plan will address housing costs by bolstering local incomes, keeping property taxes manageable through business growth, streamlining building permits and codes, and replacing premature energy transition mandates with economically responsible solutions.
We must address our self-created healthcare budget strain by lowering overall costs. I will work to fix these spiraling expenses by curtailing coverage for non-resident patients, focusing state support on essential care and ending burdensome provider fees passed onto private policyholders.
Our agricultural community is hanging on by a thread due to overregulation from Denver. I will support our farmers and ranchers by rolling back damaging mandates like the Agricultural Worker’s Rights Bill SB21-087 to restore local control and economic vitality.
Finally, we will eliminate our state budget deficit not by raising taxes on hardworking families, but by curbing Medicaid overspending, winding down costly and ineffective programs, aligning government staffing with realistic levels, and attracting new enterprises that expand our economy and taxes paid by businesses.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to share who I am, why I’m running, and the platform I hope to bring forward. I look forward to meeting more citizens across Senate District 8, listening to your concerns, and hearing directly about the issues affecting you and your families every day. Your voices matter, and I look forward to learning from you and earning your trust.
