The city of Steamboat Springs is inviting community members to get involved in shaping the future of the city’s community design standards, with an open house set for Thursday, Sept. 10 from noon-1 p.m., and again from 5-6:30 p.m. at Olympian Hall (845 Howelsen Pkwy.), states a Thursday news release.

Residents are encouraged to attend one of the two open house sessions on Sept. 10 to share their vision for the quality of the local built environment to help inform modifications to city standards that currently guide the design and appearance of development in Steamboat Springs.

The informal, interactive format is designed to allow participants to review information, provide their perspectives and speak directly with both city staff and the project consultant. The release describes the open house as the “culmination of many months of work, including numerous stakeholder meetings and focus groups with industry professionals.”

Community design standards encompass a wide range of building and site-design elements, including access, building massing, roof forms, and colors and materials for duplexes, multi-family homes, and commercial and mixed-use development.

The city is currently working with nationally recognized planning firm Code Studio to revise the standards and attempt to ensure they reflect Steamboat’s values, community character and future vision.
