Local residents are invited to pitch in for this year’s Routt County Clean Up Day, set for 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday, May 16, according to a statement released Tuesday.

The annual effort, organized through a partnership between Main Street Steamboat, Routt County, the city of Steamboat Springs and Keep it Clean, helps clear debris revealed by melting snow while preparing Steamboat and the Yampa Valley for the busy summer season.

Volunteers will gather at the Public Health & Human Services building (135 6th St.), where cleanup assignments will be distributed from 8-9:30 a.m.

Participants of all ages are welcome, though children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Individuals, families, businesses and neighborhood groups are encouraged to join. Volunteers should bring gloves, water and dress for changing weather conditions.

“Spring has sprung and all the treasures that accumulate over the winter are emerging,” said Main Street Steamboat Executive Director Lisa Popovich in the statement. “Getting our hands dirty to make sure our community looks amazing provides a great feeling. Plus, it’s easy to see what you accomplished.”
