Alpine slide summer opening set for Saturday
“The Howler,” Steamboat Springs’ Alpine slide, officially opens for the 2025 summer season Saturday.
Operated by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, the Howler requires a chairlift ride to the top of Howelsen Hill. Open to all ages, riders then climb onto sleds and descend a 2,400-foot winding track across the natural landscape.
Tickets start at $21 for adults and $17 for ages 13 and under for a single ride. Those with a military I.D. also ride for $17. Each additional ride costs $10. Children under 4 feet tall can ride along with a paying adult for $12. Children under 2 are not permitted to ride.
New this year, the alpine slide is introducing all-day passes at $45 for adults, $39 for youth and $30 for child ride-alongs. Guests can also purchase a chairlift ride for $12 if they choose to not ride the slide.
Operating Schedule:
- May 31–June 20: 11 a.m.–5 p.m. (Closed Tuesdays)
- June 21–Aug. 10: 10 a.m.–6 p.m. (Closed Tuesdays)
- Aug. 11–17: 11 a.m.–5 p.m. (Closed Tuesdays)
- Aug. 18–Sept. 21: Weekends only and Labor Day, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.
Tickets are available for purchase at the yurt at the base of the Howelsen Hill chairlift.
