Chief Youth Players holding auditions for ‘Short and Funny’ summer production
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Calling all those dreaming of being child actors. The Chief Youth Players will hold auditions for their annual summer youth production on Monday, April 8.
“What you see is what you get,” Scott Parker, Chief Theater executive director, said of working with young actors. “And what you usually get is a lot of energy and enthusiasm.”
Children and teenagers age 7 to 15 are invited to come to the Chief Theater and try out for “Short and Funny,” a series of short, one-act plays with improvisational scenes in between.
Nothing needs to be prepared beforehand. Everyone only needs to show up ready to have fun.
“We will play some improv games and have them read from some of the scripts that we are using,” Parker said.
Parker and AJ Jennings, who just directed “All New People,” will be co-directing, and they are also looking for some kids interested in helping direct a few of the plays.
“Being involved in live theater teaches patience, practice, persistence and dedication,” Parker said. “Plus, it is a lot of fun.”
Once selected, actors will need to be available for rehearsals at 6 p.m. May 21 and 28 and June 4 with “heck week” running from June 9 to 13.
“I realize the production is close to when school lets out, so we made the commitment as manageable as we could,” Parker said.
Auditions for “Short and Funny” will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 8. The show will take the stage June 14 and 15.
