Sailors cross country girls finish third at Husky Invitational

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Steamboat Springs’ Maggi Congdon won the girls varsity cross country race at the Husky Invitational at Battle Mountain High School in Vail on Saturday, helping the Sailors girls team finish third behind Battle Mountain and Cheyenne Mountain in a 19-team field. Her winning time was 20:42.

Winter Boese also had a strong run for the Steamboat girls, crossing the finish line in 14th with a time of 22:08. Other top finishers for the Sailors were Isabelle Boniface, who placed 34th with a time of 23:44, and Sidney Barbier, who placed 41st with a time of 23:54.

In the boys varsity race, Sumner Cotton was Steamboat’s top finisher. He placed 22nd out of 150 athletes with a time of 19:28.

The Sailor boys team placed 12th out of 22 teams.

Steamboat JV teams also competed at the invitation. The girls finished in sixth place at the meet, and the boys were eighth.

Freshman Courtney Vargas placed seventh, and freshman Bowden Tumminello finished 12th in the boys race for the young Sailors.
