Sailor boys fall to Eagle Valley in regular season finale

The Steamboat Springs High School boys basketball team will not share a piece of the Western Slope title, as Eagle Valley defeated the Sailors at home 52-44 on Thursday, Feb. 17.

Steamboat jumped out to a small lead in the first quarter. With 1 minute, 37 seconds left in the first half, Devils senior Erich Petersen scored to tie the game at 20.

Eagle Valley scored the next six points and led 26-22 going into the locker rooms.



The Devils pushed that lead to almost double digits, 42-33, over the third quarter.

Steamboat shifted gears and started to execute a comeback late in the game as Sailors senior Parker Lindquist went off. He used a 3-pointer to make it 42-39 with 6:21 left to play. He scored a team-high 14 points.



A few minutes later, senior Kellen Adams cut the deficit to 43-40 and junior Ethan Hoy kept it close, 45-42, with a jump shot and Lindquist shrunk the gap with a layup. With less than a minute to play, Steamboat trailed 46-44.

The Sailors proceeded to foul the Devils, who made their free throws. Meanwhile, Steamboat couldn’t score, and Eagle Valley pulled ahead 52-44.

Steamboat ended regular season play with a 9-3 league record.

Meanwhile, the Sailor girls fell to Eagle Valley 60-49, ending their regular season with a 7-5 record against Western Slope teams.
