Tigers go 2-1 in Wyoming tournament

The Hayden High School girls basketball team split its Saturday doubleheader against a pair of Wyoming teams, losing in the morning after a slow start against Encampment, 46-32, then winning in overtime in the afternoon against Dubois, 47-41.

“The kids played well, and I’m proud of them,” coach Michelle Wilkie said. “They’re showing some good progress, little steps that are starting to pay off.”

They paid off in that second game, the overtime win.

The team was led in scoring by Grace Wilkie and Darian Murphy, who each scored 11. Both were fouled out when overtime hit, however.

Brooke Munden hit two free throws to help ice the game. Kyra Bennett, meanwhile, scored 10 points.

“We had kids step up,” Michelle Wilkie said. “It was great just to know we can count on that, on them keeping their composure. They did a great job.”

The team, 3-3, is now off until January.
