Steamboat girls pick up second win

The Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball team made it a 2-0 start to the season with a win Saturday on the road against Roaring Fork.

The Sailors came back from a halftime deficit to win handily, 37-25.

“Overall, it was a good weekend,” coach Mack Spitellie said.

Senior Jenna Miller’s 14 points led the team.

Spitellie said rebounding helped his team take the lead and expand upon it in the second half. A big 3-pointer from Karly Lanning helped the Sailors pull away. Spitellie also pointed to Allison Casey’s play at point guard.

“That was a huge lift for us,” he said.

Now, the Sailors begin preparing for the Steamboat Shoot Out tournament, which gets underway Thursday.
