Rams rally to win in Meeker tourney

Warren Hayes scored 20 points, and Schuyler Carlson had 13 as the Soroco High School boys basketball team stormed back from a halftime deficit to defeat Rangely comfortably in the first round of the Meeker Cowboy Shoot Out, 51-40.

Now, the Rams will play either the weekend’s host, Meeker, or the Moffat County junior varsity team in the semifinals.

“It was a good game. I’m proud of the good depth we’re creating with our young guys,” coach Shawn Hayes said. “Those guys are really stepping up on the defensive end and on the offensive boards.”

Soroco trailed, 21-19, after a listless second quarter, but came back in a big way, scoring 16 each in the third and fourth quarters.

“We came out, got focused offensively and got in our offensive flow,” Hayes said. “We started hitting some 3s and started clamping down defensively and on the boards.”

The Rams improved to 3-0 with the win.
