Hayden girls win first in Wyoming

The Hayden High School girls basketball team opened its stint in the Carbon County Classic tournament Friday night in Wyoming with a win, 26-23, against Cokeville High School.

Coach Michelle Wilkie said her team ran up against a good defensive squad, but was able to work through some pressure and score enough.

“We got some shots early, most of them in the first half,” Wilkie said. “We ran our offense pretty well, but missed some easy baskets underneath and a few layups, and our free throw shooting wasn’t the best, but it kept us in the game.”

Gracie Wilkie scored eight points to lead the team. Darian Murphy had seven, and Allison Ingols added five.

“I saw some really good things,” Michelle Wilkie said. “They are really starting to compete, and I really appreciate that. That’s what we’ve asked, for them to compete.”

The Tigers, 2-2, play again Saturday in Wyoming in a doubleheader, at 9:30 a.m. against Encampment and at noon against Debois.
