Ledecka wins at Alpine snowboard World Cup

Czech Alpine snowboarder Ester Ledecka, who’s trained with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, got a blazingly fast start to her season Saturday. She won a women’s parallel giant slalom World Cup event in Carezza, Italy, beating out Switzerland’s Ladina Jenny to win the fourth World Cup event of her career. It was her seventh podium on the circuit.

Ekaterina Tudegesheva, another rider with a club connection, was third.

On the men’s side, a trio of Steamboat snowboarders missed the chance to race in 16-rider finals. Justin Reiter was 18th, Aaron Muss 27th and Converse Fields 37th. Two-time Olympic gold medalist and American-born, Steamboat-trained Russian rider Vic Wild was fifth.

Next up for the World Cup is a stop Saturday in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
