Local skiers stumble at moguls World Cup

It wasn’t a great weekend for Steamboat Springs freestyle skiers tackling the first World Cup event of the season.

Skiing in a dual moguls event in Ruka, Finland, neither Jeremy Cota nor Sophia Schwartz were able to finish their runs in their respective competitions.

It wasn’t an all-around bad weekend for U.S. skiers, however.

Mikaela Matthews, from Summit County, won the women’s event, a first for her on the World Cup circuit. Matthews was third and fourth in the U.S. Freestyle National Championship moguls events in Steamboat Springs in March.
