Steamboat volleyball falls at Battle Mountain, 3-1

It wasn’t a win, but it was a step forward Thursday for the Steamboat Springs High School volleyball team in the eyes of coach Wendy Hall.

The Sailors lost on the road at Battle Mountain in their first Western Slope League game of the season, 25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 25-18.

Steamboat trailed 9-0 in the first set, which, when combined with 0-4 performance last weekend in a tournament at Silver Creek, was a troubling sign.

The squad responded after that, however, made the first set competitive and won the second.

"What I'm most proud of tonight, we just showed a heck of a lot of fight and played with a ton of heart and a ton of passion, and that's not something we had last weekend at Silver Creek," Hall said. "It was really nice to see us bounce back from that."

Next up for the Sailors is a trip Saturday to play at Glenwood Springs. The Sailors and the Demons met earlier this month in a tournament in Glenwood, a match Steamboat lost, 2-0. The Sailors will be looking to avenge that loss.
