Steamboat girls tennis battles with Poudre High School

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The Steamboat Springs High School girls tennis team took on Poudre High School on Thursday, March 28.

Steamboat Springs junior Mae Thorp won her match at No. 1 singles over Chloe Knape, 7-5, 7-5. No. 2 singles senior Lily Fox fell 6-3, 6-4 in her match, and junior Noelle Cerone lost at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-4.

Both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams won their matches for the Sailors.

Freshmen Liesel Wilkinson and Lauren Fullerton won 6-3, 6-4 over Gretta Hoven and Abby Haines. The No. 3 doubles team of seniors Soria Rabanal and Maddie Heydon split sets with Ai Li George and Ally Meland, 6-3, 0-6, then won in a 10-3 tiebreaker.

The No. 1 doubles teams of juniors Lauren Ehrlich and Morgan Sauerbrey fell to Karen Yang and Emma Basta, 6-1, 6-2. The No. 4 doubles team of junior Kara Stanhope and senior Katelyn Kline split with Madeleine Colbert and Sophie Pickelner, 6-4, 1-6, then lost in an 11-9 tiebreaker.
