Steamboat boys lacrosse completes 2-game sweep against Battle Mountain
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Steamboat Springs High School boys lacrosse team defeated Battle Mountain, 9-4, on the road Monday, April 15.
The Sailors and Huskies were tied at half, 2-2, but the Sailors came out fighting in the third quarter, scoring four goals within three minutes to start the second half. They tallied five total in the third quarter alone, holding the Huskies to just two for a 7-4 lead.
“Our offense at halftime felt that they were letting down the defense by not scoring,” Sailors head coach Jay Lattimore said. “They did a great job early in the second half to pay back the defense and secure a great team win.”
The Sailors didn’t allow any additional goals in the fourth, while adding two more to the tally to close the win.
Senior Jacob Gilbertson and sophomore Ryan McNamara each had two goals. Seniors Matthew Kempers, Colton Sankey, Tyler Doyne, Jackson Lynch and Macray Dillingham each had one goal.
Junior Griffin Maltby stayed strong in goal with 14 saves.
“We were fortunate to have our defense lead the way to a big win,” Lattimore said. “Griffin Maltby really played great in net, and our team is building momentum behind our goalies’ performances.”
