Steamboat baseball sweeps Moffat County
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The Steamboat Springs High School Sailors baseball team enjoyed a doubleheader win over the Moffat County High School Bulldogs on Thursday night in Craig.
Sophomore Alan Duty commanded the mound in a 13-1 victory for the Sailors. He pitched a no-hitter through five innings of work with one run scored on a walk.
Junior Tanner Ripley had a productive night at the plate with a home run and four RBIs in the contest.
Duty went one for five from the plate, knocking in one RBI. Sophomore Austin Ibarra was one for four with one RBI. Sophomore Colter Gansmann drew two walks and had one hit for an RBI during his four at-bats. Freshman Walker Ripley went two for four from the plate, collecting two RBIs.
The Bulldogs gave up eight walks and five of the runs scored by the Sailors would be on walks.
The Sailors won their second game 10-2 with junior Ethen Johnson striking out six batters and walking three. He gave up two hits and two earned runs through 4 2/3 innings of work. Gansmann closed out the game striking out one and allowing one hit.
Duty and Gansmann both were one for four at the plate, with each recording one RBI. Ripley went two for four with one RBI, and Johnson had a double with two RBIs in the contest. Junior Jack Colfer also doubled and had tallied three RBIs.
The Bulldogs walked a total of 12 Sailors in the second game.
The Sailors stole 14 bases on the day, including nine in the first game and five in the second.
