Steamboat baseball defeats Aspen after tough weekend against Palisade

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Following a tough weekend on the road in Palisade, the Steamboat Springs High School baseball team defeated Aspen on Monday, April 8, in Aspen.

The Sailors defeated Aspen 8-2 after the two teams went scoreless for three innings. The Skiers had a 2-1 edge over the Sailors at the bottom of the fifth, but Steamboat responded by scoring three runs in the sixth inning and four in the seventh to notch the win.

Freshman Walker Ripley led the Sailors with a team-high three RBIs, including the two-run RBI single that gave the Sailors the lead in the sixth inning.

Alan Duty added an RBI triple, and Colter Gansmann recorded a double in the contest.

The Sailors put three pitchers on the mound against Aspen. In two innings of work, Ethen Johnson struck out three batters and walked two.

Maxim Fullerton threw for a team-high four strikeouts, walked five batters and gave up one earned run through 2 ⅔ innings, and George Cook finished the night with three strikeouts and one walk through 2 ⅓ innings of work.

The Sailors play a doubleheader in Basalt on Saturday, April 13.
