SSWSC Nordic combined athletes finish strong at North American Championships

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Nordic combined athletes traveled to Whistler, British Columbia, to compete in the 2019 North American Championships.

Alexa Brabec topped the women’s U20 Nordic combined competition in first place while teammate Tess Arnone finished second.

Niklas Malacinski was first in the men’s U20 division and teammates Gunnar Gilbertson and Erik Belshaw placed fourth and fifth respectively.

Athletes hit two different jumps in the ski jumping portion of the competition.

The U16 female division jumped off the HS100, with Arnone leading the Winter Sports Club pack in second and Brabec taking fourth.

Gilbertson was the top finisher for Steamboat in the U16 male division on the HS100, where he claimed second. Malacinski finished in third and Belshaw in fifth.

Annika Belshaw led the women’s U20 and open female competitions on the HS100 and HS140, placing second in both competitions.

Gilbertson took sixth in the open men’s ski jumping division on the HS140, Malacinski was seventh and Belshaw 10th.
