Sailors track competes at St. Vrain Invitational

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The Steamboat Springs High School track team had 22 athletes qualify for the St. Vrain Invitational on Saturday, May 11.

The St. Vrain Invitational features 70 of the top high school teams in the state and even plays host to elite athletes around the world competing for prize money.

Girls top finishers

Junior Maggi Congdon finished fifth overall in the 1,600-meters out of the top 10 runners in the state. Senior Winter Boese finished 15th out of 65 runners in the 800-meters. The girls 4×200-meter relay team of freshman Elise Colby, junior Marcada Baker, freshman Kelsey Hamilton and sophomore Aliyah Reimer finished in ninth place, running a new school record time of 1 minute, 48.09 seconds. 

The girls sprint medley relay team of seniors Nicole Mueller and Kari Saunders and sophomores Reimer and Baker finished eighth out of 27 teams. 

Boys top finishers

Junior Jack Tracy placed 10th in the discus throw. 

The boys 4×800-meter relay team of freshman Bowden Tumminello, sophomore Jaydon Fryer, senior Aubrey Morrison and sophomore Thomas Lewer ran a season’s best and placed ninth overall. They are not in contention to compete at the state meet but show a promising future. 

Declarations for the state championship track and field roster were submitted this weekend. Finalized rosters will be published in Thursday’s Steamboat Pilot & Today.
