— The Steamboat Springs High School girls’ lacrosse team fell to 0-2 Friday after another close loss, this time to Pueblo West, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The game was tied 4-4 at halftime, with the Sailors eventually losing, 10-8.

“Once again, the girls played very, very well,” SSHS coach Betsy Frick said. “They are looking, I’d say, improved over last year. Working well.”

Freshman Lucy Shimek led the team with seven goals, the eighth coming from Cassett Yeager.

“We had an assist from four players, which is awesome to see that teamwork start coming into play,” Frick said.

The Sailors will play one more game in New Mexico, facing Rio Rancho Saturday morning. The team lost to Santa Fe Prep on Thursday, a 16-15 overtime defeat.
