Steamboat girls soccer

7 p.m. Friday: Steamboat (2-0) at Palisade (3-0)

11 a.m. Saturday: Steamboat at Delta (0-2)

The Sailors have looked sharp through two games, a 9-0 cruiser over Middle Park and 5-0 win over Summit. However, both of those early contests were at home. Now, Steamboat will play on the road on back-to-back days. First is a trip to Colorado Mesa University on Friday to play Palisade; then, it’s over to Delta on Saturday morning. Palisade is 3-0 and, like Steamboat, hasn’t allowed a goal this season. Delta is 0-2 and plays at Grand Junction Central on Thursday.

Steamboat girls lacrosse

10:30 a.m. Saturday: Steamboat (1-2) vs. Durango (0-1)

Even though they were shorthanded, the SSHS girls were competitive in their lacrosse openers last weekend in New Mexico. The team went 1-2, and both losses were very close. Now, Steamboat will host Durango Saturday in its home opener and should have a more robust roster. Durango lost its opener 19-3 to Aspen and will play at Summit on Friday. The Sailors also host Air Academy at 5:45 p.m. Friday in a scrimmage.

Steamboat boys lacrosse

1:30 p.m. Saturday: Steamboat (1-0) vs. Windsor (1-0)

Ranked No. 7 in Class 4A to open the season, Steamboat rallied from a three-goal deficit to beat Fruita Monument, 12-8, in its opener last weekend. Saturday, the Sailors will face a much tougher test in No. 9 Windsor at Gardner Field. The teams last met in the first round of the 4A state tournament last spring, a 16-15 Windsor win that ended Steamboat’s season. Windsor also defeated the Sailors, 10-6, last year during the regular season. The Wizards will play at Valor Christian Thursday before coming to the Yampa Valley.

Steamboat baseball

11 a.m. Saturday: Steamboat (1-0) at Rifle (1-1)

The SSHS baseball team opened its season last weekend with a 9-8 win over Mitchell in Colorado Springs. Coach Rusty McRight was concerned about the loss of five starters from last year’s 6-13 squad but has been impressed with what he’s seen so far this spring. The Sailors enter conference play this weekend with a Saturday doubleheader at Rifle. The game was originally to be played at Moffat County High School, but the fields in Craig aren’t yet baseball ready.

Steamboat, Hayden and Soroco track

Noon Friday: All at Rifle

Track season gets underway for Steamboat Springs, Soroco and Hayden high schools Friday in Rifle. All three teams have plenty of talent to replace, but there is plenty of talent returning, as well. The next month and a half is all about building toward the May 6 and 7 regionals, held in Grand Junction. The schools will mostly go their separate ways after Rifle, with SSHS next headed to Broomfield March 26, Soroco to Brighton March 31 and Hayden to Grand Junction April 2.
