High school sports weekend preview for March 10 to 14
Steamboat boys lacrosse
11 a.m. Saturday: Steamboat (0-0) vs. Fruita Monument (0-0)
The Sailors’ boys lacrosse team gets its season going Saturday morning against Fruita Monument at Gardner Field in Steamboat Springs. SSHS is in its third season under coach Jay Lattimore, who guided the team to the Class 4A state tournament in each of his two seasons. After going 15-3 and reaching the state semis in his first season, the Sailors went 9-7 last year, losing to Windsor in the first round. Fruita Monument went 5-10 last year and opens its 2016 season Friday against Summit.
Steamboat girls lacrosse
Thursday-Saturday: Steamboat (0-0) at Santa Fe, N.M.
The Sailors’ girls lacrosse team hits the road for its opening weekend with a series of games in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Steamboat looks to improve from back-to-back, one-win seasons. After the opening weekend, SSHS heads home to Gardner Field for its home opener against Durango next Saturday. The Sailors are again led by coach Betsy Frick.
Steamboat girls golf
Monday: Steamboat at Lincoln Park, Grand Junction
The Sailors’ girls golf team continues its inaugural season Monday with a tournament at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Grand Junction. SSHS opened its season earlier this week at Chipeta Golf Course, also in Grand Junction. Four girls competed individually, with the rest playing in a scramble. Senior Jenna Miller led the team in the individual tournament. For most of the golfers, it was their first career competition.

4 p.m. Thursday: Steamboat at Durango, in Grand Junction
Friday-Saturday: Steamboat at Grand Junction tournament
The Sailors’ girls tennis team had a mostly successful first weekend in a 5-2 win over Aspen and 5-2 loss to Fruita Monument in Steamboat. SSHS was missing a handful of key players last weekend but plans to have a full roster when it travels to Grand Junction this weekend. The Sailors will have a single match with Durango on Thursday at Canyon View Park before taking part in a two-day tournament Friday and Saturday.
