The coke ovens in Moffat County near Greystone — five miles west of Douglas Mountain — are a popular tourism attraction. Craig resident Dan Olsen submitted this photo saying, "They're really cool." The ovens are 20 to 30 feet tall and are owned by the Museum of Northwest Colorado. Built in 1889 by the Bromide Mining and Milling Co., the coke ovens are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. They were used to smelter copper ore from a Bromide Mine near Douglas Mountain, according to Museum of Northwest Colorado documents. The smelter closed in the early 1900s.
