MCHS beat Rifle for the second time Saturday, with a hat trick by Ayala adding to a 4-2 score, Ulises Silva also putting in a goal. The team moves to 4-1-1 overall and 1-0 in 3A Region 3 play. The Dogs play a conference game on their own turf Tuesday against Coal Ridge before hosting Grand Junction for a rescheduled game Thursday.

The participants of the Junque Box Build-Off display their handiwork Saturday in Alice Pleasant Park. Four teams were given an hour to construct something with a few tools and a box full of random materials, ranging from lumber, scrap metal and computer circuit boards to lace and plastic flowers. The winning entry was a wooden airplane, put together by Justin McIntyre and Patrick Conniff. Also on display in the park were the entries in Downtown Business Association's Upcycle Contest, which were revisions of old items into something entirely new. Winners included a stereo cabinet converted to a bench by Charles Fread for the adults and two kids' entries, a bird feeder made from a lamp stand and lamp shades by Karli Wagner and a decorative turtle from Hannah Kilpatrick made of a colander, utensils and phone receiver, among other pieces. Organizer Karen Brown said the contest received 27 entries in its fourth year, the most ever. "Thrilled with the turnout, it's a lot of nice stuff and creative ideas," she said.
