Fourth of July in Steamboat Springs
-
Erik Summers, 12, left, Logan Sully, 14 and Kelly Ryan, 13 blast a rider with water Wednesday on the Yampa River Core Trail in Steamboat Springs. They were joined in the effort by Sarah Kite, 14. The event has become an Independence Day tradition for the friends, though it has evolved. A few angry riders last year taught them to hollar out "Do you want to be sprayed?" as riders approached. They also had to do away with fireworks this year as the region is under a fire ban.

Tourists and locals alike packed the streets Wednesday morning for the Fourth of July parade through downtown Steamboat Springs. Hot weather and fire restrictions sapped some of the traditional activities out of the Fourth of July celebration, but it didn't take the enthusiasm from the crowd, which seemed to find particular joy in floats that sprayed water and offered relief from the heat.
