Ben Beall: Soccer Club says thanks
August 14, 2015
On behalf of the Steamboat Springs Soccer Club, I want to take a moment to thank the community of Steamboat Springs for their continued support of the Steamboat Mountain Soccer Tournament.
Four weekends ago, the club wrapped up another very successful tournament experience. The soccer club and its many volunteers worked for months to coordinate the event and we owe a debt of gratitude to the many sponsors, businesses, and the community at large.
While the tournament brings thousands of visitors to Steamboat, the primary aim of the event is to allow our local nonprofit to remain self sufficient and keep club participations fees as low as possible for local families. Athletics are a vital aspect of the youth experience. Hosting the tournament allows our local youth to showcase their community and develop pride in their home town.
With a record 156 participating teams and over 12,000 visitors, we hope the traffic impacts and inconvenience that accompany tourist visitation were offset by a measure of economic gain and positive exposure of Steamboat to families that may have been visiting for the first time.
Our organization understands the impact this event has on our community, and we remain committed to strengthening partnerships locally. We truly appreciate the opportunity to have this event in our beautiful hometown each year and welcome any feedback members of the community may have.
Thank you so much to the businesses that sponsored the event, to our partners in the lodging community, to the city for its hard work in providing field space and parking coordination, to the hundreds of volunteers who gave their time to making the event possible, and especially to the community in and around Steamboat Springs, which time and again proves why this is a great place to live, play, and raise a family.
