Letter: Thanks for making Veterans Day a success
On behalf of the members of American Legion Post 44 and VFW Post 4264 and all the veterans of Routt County, we would like to thank this great community for the support and recognition of the veterans that live here for their service to this great nation.
First, thanks to John Russell for great coverage and pictures of the school events, and Suzie Romig for recognition of the WWII veterans living at Casey’s Pond. Shannon Lukens provided great radio coverage of events.
What would Veterans Day be without the great school programs? Jake Gasau at Soda Creek Elementary, Corinne Summerfeld at Strawberry Park Elementary and Kyle Kounovsky at Sleeping Giant School, and their fifth grade classes put on great programs with readings and songs that were very moving to all the veterans that attended.
Also, schools in Hayden and Soroco put on programs to honor veterans in their areas. These school programs not only honor veterans, but also are a learning tool for discovering the history of family members that have served in the armed forces.
Finally, what a great community, with many businesses giving discounts or free services, restaurants that provided free meals, and many groups and individuals that took the time to honor our veterans.
Again, a big thank you to all for honoring our local veterans on this very important holiday that recognizes the service and sacrifices of men and women that took time out of their lives to defend the freedoms we enjoy today.
Jim Stanko
Adjutant American Legion Post 44 and VFW Post 4264
