Letter: Savannah Wolfson will support law enforcement officers

As a retired police chief, I ask you to support Savannah Wolfson for state House District 26. She is the candidate who supports law enforcement and victims of abuse.

I met Savannah when she heard about the 2020 surge of first-time gun owners. She put together a free safety class here in Routt County to train women how to store and use firearms safely. No matter where you stand on firearms, people were buying guns without experience or instruction. They needed safety training. Savannah contacted me as a certified instructor. I believed this was so important that I offered my services to her class for free. She asked me to cover, in particular, gun storage around children in the home.

Savannah knows how terrifying it is to watch helplessly during a home invasion. She was robbed in a Democrat-run city with a defunded police force. It took the police five hours to arrive. At the time, she did not own firearms and her children were sleeping upstairs in their beds. She could only watch. She realized it could have been a lot worse and she vowed to learn how to defend her family safely.

Her opponent has a checkered history with law enforcement and firearms. As the Boulder County Democratic Vice Chair, she voted yes on a resolution in support of SB20-217, which caused many officers to retire early in fear. Colorado has safe storage laws, red flag laws, a ban on automatic weapons, magazine capacity limits, universal background checks and more. What is left to take away from legal gun owners, why and what is her planned method? She won’t say.

It leads me to ask, why do the Colorado Democrats insist on re-releasing violent abusers again and again to reoffend, while disarming victims? We all want to end mass murders, but laws were passed and the mass shootings continue. Try keeping criminals away from the public, not disempowering law-abiding victims in need of self defense. Also, give schools the funding they need for security. Democrats alone control the state budget, but they refuse.

My experience in law enforcement and helping victims makes me sure that Savannah Wolfson is the only choice to represent this district. Support the police, support victims, and please join me in voting for Savannah Wolfson.
